I remember the first band I was ever in. We applied tip number 3 by being the loudest. But, none of these other things ever occurred to us. Given, we were still in high school, neverĀ could think of a good band name, and we didn’t use social media at all really, except for a crappy website. There are so many things out there now to help indie bands get their music out, track all kinds of stats, help you book shows for a tour, and just about anything else you can think of. That’s why starting with just a couple of these services and hammering away at them makes a lot of sense (tip #2).
Real quick though, #5 doesn’t mention one important thing when it comes to “embracing anarchy” that some people don’t understand (pay attention rich record execs). The thing to keep in mind here is that giving away some music for free can be okay. All of this pirating music, downloading songs for free, copying each other’s CDs, etcetera can be ok.
